Pink Saturday

Auld Lang Syne History & Lyrics
Auld Lang Syne (The Good Old Days) is a song traditionally sung at midnight when horns are blown, confetti is thrown, and a general party atmosphere is created to ring in the New Year with happiness and hope for a bright and prosperous year. The outgoing year is often represented by an elderly man known as Father Time and the new year is represented by a baby known as Baby New Year.
Robert Burns wrote the lyrics to Auld Lang Syne in the 1700's.
Auld Lang Syne
Robert Burns
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll take a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne
We twa hae run aboot the braesAnd pou'd the gowans fine; we've wander'd mony a weary foot Sin' auld lang syne
We two hae paidled i' the burn, Frae mornin' sun till dine; But seas between us braid hae roar'd Sin' auld lang syne
And here's a hand, my trusty friend, And gie's a hand o' thine; We'll take a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll take a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne
Wishing all of my Pink Saturday friends
A Prosperous and Happy New Year.

Merry Pink Saturday!

Happy Pink Saturday to all of you. I'm sure everyone is incredibly busy but I just wanted to thank Beverly for so faithfully hosting this fun event for us each and every Saturday. That's me in the middle on my way to Bunco... (don't confuse me with Santa Claus [by my friend Karen Harvey Cox]) ...in my rooster sweater and my snowman pin and earrings - really, you can't overdress for Bunco can you??!? I'm actually putting a recent picture on here for incentive to lose the 40 lbs (okay we're being honest here) 50 lbs I've gained over the past two years!!! So next year I'm going to Weightwatchers and starting a walking routine. So who wants to be my exercise partner? Nutrition coach? I'll be taking sign ups so just leave me a comment and get your pink warmups ready.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!!! Love, Nancy

Santa Will Find You

I decided to link this post to Kimba's open house that's been going on all day. I'll be number 208 so only you real gluttons for blog decorating punishment will make it here! LOL Then there's another tour of homes at Hooked on Houses whose house I'm hooked on because it's so darn pretty. So here is my already done post:

Man, was I in a Christmas funk this year. The Roost was decorated, the church was decorated...even my blog is decorated. My house - not so much - actually not at all! Buut I finally got my tree up...well actually we're a tag team. Jeff puts it up strings on the lights and turns it over to me. It's one of those that has h branches, then i, then j and so on meaning it's a lot of work - not one of the stand it up flip a switch kind. My grandson and granddaughter (oh I love saying that!) sorted and fluffed and we got it all together then it sat there for a week while I was at church decorating there. And I started thinking that hmmm...maybe I'd stick on some bows and call it done. For the first time in years our Christmas Eve party won't be at my house. My daughter in law is having it and at first I thought no way but then realized that if my kids start having it maybe they'll always continue the tradition. (We just round up our family, cousins, inlaws, and inlaws of anyone and everyone brings one gift that ends up in a huge pile. We draw numbers and then steal from each other) So who would care if I didn't decorate?
Then Friday night at midnight I had a glass of eggnog and Southern Comfort...(actually more like a glass of Southern Comfort laced with eggnog!) and got to work and two hours later I was done!

My sister always had the prettiest tree and I'm so glad I have a few of her ornaments...I really miss her most at Christmas and when I put her ornaments on the tree I can almost feel her there with me.

Okay...enough of that before I get all weepy again! My kitchen is wacky and whimsical and how pathetic am I that I didn't even dig out the kitchen tree stuff and decorations?!? Worse than that I just hit up Goodwill and St. V de P. My vintage Santa made it down from the attic. (Like me he hate's the stairs so hence only once a year for him!) I grabbed some of the stuff I bought to alter and didn't; then, called in the chickens to do double duty as Christmas decorations. Look I don't even have a small Christmasy tablecloth since I didn't have this round table last year.
It's beginning to look a bit more festive in here...
And just look at those dancing reindeer I found this year. I don't even care that two of them were lost when I bought them. Hey - maybe Santa has two and these six are lost! I do believe after all that....
Santa will find me!!!! Is that not the best new Christmas song you've heard in a long time? So...how about you kringles...are you decorating still? done? doing the same as always? I've heard of a lot of people just not doing as much this year. I'm definitely not doing much more this year, however next year I may put my house on the Heritage House tour so really I should start getting ready for that in January! Any volunteers to come help me? LOL

Y you guys! Nancy

My picture for Pink Saturday is a little border of Pooh and his sweet little pink friend Piglet. Those two are the best of friends...and speaking of friends...I want to thank all of you for the sweet and very personal messages you left on my smilebox wedding slide show. Isn't it amazing that there is such a connection to each other in this blog community? Almost a year ago I would never have suspected that through this blog I would meet so many people that I now consider friends! Someone commented that blogging must be an awful lot of "work"....nope...it is such a relaxing thing for me. A place where I can also drop in on you guys any time of the day or night where there is always something interesting going on - new babies, pictures of grandchildren, recipes, home tours, swaps...and then there are sad times like Kari and Kjisa experienced with their dad's passing or Rhonda's mom's illness. How wonderful to see the prayers and messages of sympathy and encouragement that poured in by the hundreds. I learned from the Nester that "it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful" - such a liberating concept for me. Then through her I met June and her crazy pet family on ByeByePie - an instant pick-me-up as is that little traveling Stone Rabbit up in MO.! Pink Saturday and Shades of Inspiration prompted me to get out my camera and look at the world around me in a new way. My blog is a place where I never get a blank stare for being excited about finding an old ledger or box of yellowed receipts because you guys see possiblities in them - we all seem to get each other. So thank you all for allowing me to share in your lives and for being a part of mine. I feel I've found my own little corner of the "wood" where friends can help me count all the bees in the hive with no explanations needed or get a honeypot off my nose! (Hope you have your sound on) ......
To the uneducated, an A is just three sticks.” A.A.Milne
sort of why a blog is more than just three sticks!
XOXO Nancy
P.S. That pretty ironing board cover came from Marshall's. It was about $12.00 and is a Laura Ashley (or another similar brand) and I only got it about a month ago so they may still have them. The padding is part of the reversible cover and it works really smoothly.
P.S.S. Thank you Beverly at HowSweetTheSound for hosting today.

Pink Saturday

On the day I took these pictures I was doing laundry, ironing some things for The Roost, and looking for some blinged out things to photograph for the Shades of Inspiration group on Flickr (my fav group) and hoping they could do double duty for Pink Saturday. Looking across the room after I took this picture I realized that my "work space" is the perfect PS picture. My new ironing board cover is so pretty it almost makes me want to iron Almost! being the key word here because nothing, nada, zip is that pretty!

But sometimes I have to do it anyway and it's a lot more pleasant ironing on a pretty Pink Flowered cover than those gunmetal gray ones that are coated with super teflon or the one I just threw away that scooched all over the place!

Soooo if today happens to be your "ironing day" I hope it's a pink ironing day! Do you guys iron? Are you a rumpled mess or do you send it all to the drycleaners? I bet Beverly wears starched and ironed pink outfits all the time. Let's go ask her! Heck - let's ask all the pink blogs!

A Pink Swap for Pink Saturday

For once I did remember to take some photos before tearing into this exquisite box of pink goodies. For the Vintage Pink Christmas swap, Betty at She's So Pretty was my partner. Betty makes these fabulous pin cushions with crochet and vintage fabrics and I don't know how she makes the incredible little flowers but They are just wonderful. Her work is really amazing and I loved everything in this package. (That Hersheys didn't last long!)
Take a look at the little "candies" - are they delicious or what. There were beautiful old shiny brite ornaments and look at that Snowlady!!! I had never seen one before and I just think she couldn't be more adorable!
Thank you so much Betty for these pink goodies. I loved it all. Betty has some great pictures on her blog so stop by and see her on your Pink Saturday tour. Be sure to visit Beverly who so graciously hosts this weekly event. Have a wonderful week. Nancy

The Magic Hanky

Does anyone remember these? A baby shower gift from my friend Taryl in 1972.
Now I need to launder and press it for my son to give to his honey
36 years later! And it seems like yesterday I was bringing home my baby boy with the little bonnet on his head! Sigh.

Pink Christmas

I'm drrrreeeeeaming.....of a Piiiiiiink Christmas P .
I thought I'd share a couple of pictures of some really beautiful displays from the Antique Gallery. Isn't this gorgeous? This gal, Eileen, has the most beautiful ornaments she paints roses on. I love the way she did her garland - it's completely pink-a-licious!She paints roses on about everything!
Really - everything!
Thanks, Eileen for letting us tour your pink booth.
Now I have to show you my hands down most fabulous bestest bargain ever!!!! This is my $15.00 rug I bought at a yard sale. It was hanging on a fence and the part showing looked a little discolored and I knew I could find a use for the good part. It measures about 9x12 and is thick, soft wool.

So I bought it, spread it out on my porch to shampoo it and it wasn't faded at all - just the way the nap was laying. It has beautiful shades of pink all through it and the beige is definitely a "pink tone beige. It's in my bedroom now and it looks fabulous on my drafty old hardwood floor and warms the room (and my toes) and just feels like silk on my feet.
I'm totally in love with it! So thank you crazy person who sold this rug waaay to cheap...... Now I have to go walk on my $15 rug some more so have a wonderful Pink Saturday! Thanks Beverly at How Sweet the Sound - the pink hostess with the mostest.
Y Nancy

Psst - I have a little giveaway going on this weekend for Karen's Christmas Fair one post down.

Blue Christmas on Pink Saturday

Hello my pink friends. Last August when it was 1 jillion degrees here in Texas a new Christmas Store opened in New Braunfels. It's associated with Schlitterbahn - the top rated water park in the whole U.S. ! Waterpark? and Christmas? Normally I would say they don't quite go hand in hand but Schlitterbahn is opening during the holidays this year with a spectacular light display, ice skating and is being transformed into a winter wonderland. Anyway, now that I have totally overexplained that I'll take you on a tour of the store. Park your reindeer right here.
And step into this 150 year old stone home turned Christmas Shoppe! Are these trees BLUE enough for you?
Lovely blue ornaments...Pretty wreath but I'm sort of wondering...is there any pink here??? Maybe a pink angel. Nope she's blue too but I do love her.
How about Santa. Nope he's a beautiful shade of blue but I wanted some pink things to share.
Things just kept getting bluer.Incredible BLUE swag but....NUTS! Will I ever come across anything PINK?!!Ah, finally something with a little pink mixed in with the red.Looky here...a table full of pink chef Santas but who's the lousy photographer chopping off heads and fuzzying the whole picture?? MEEEE. You knew I was saving the best for last. Just for you here is a fabulous display of PINK SANTAS. Aren't they the best?

Look at him on that glammed up reindeer. So if you could have any one of these things which one would it be?
I hate to be a pink traitor but I just love that blue angel. Don't tell Beverly when you stop over at How Sweet The Sound! Pink Hugs to you, Nancy
