Happy Birthday Pink Saturday!

Congratulations Beverly!  Turning my whole blog PINK today…just for you!

pink saturday

For two years Beverly at How Sweet The Sound has faithfully hosted Pink Saturday.  Hundreds of bloggers have participated.  I think I started not long after the first week and have only missed a couple myself.  In case you possibly have been away…say on the planet Venus or somewhere – Pink Saturday was featured in Somerset Studio's beautiful magazine – Artful Blogging.

Some of Karen's watercolors at A Scrapbook of Inspiration were featured

and more of the beautiful pictures and collections from other pink bloggers.

It has been such fun doing this for the past several years and I've met so many people who are now as familiar to me as a next door neighbor.  If you haven't joined our "Pink Neighborhood" before today – well come on in!  Once you do you just won't want to leave!

Show and Tell Friday…Finding Beauty!

I thought this would be a good weekend to share some pictures of a Round Robin travel book  club I was in. Five of us each chose a country for our book and  the pages that we did in each others books. We each chose a country and I chose the good old…

DSC05120

Which of course gave me ample opportunity to add in the State of Texas….and that's a beautiful thing!!!!  Just ask any Texan.

DSC05126

Here's some pages I did in the Mexico book.  I grew up on the border in the Rio Grande Valley – 11 miles from Mexico.  Palm trees and orange trees that perfumed the whole valley in the spring – what do you call that?  A memory triggered by a certain smell?

Our country's flag flying in the breeze – what could be better?  Oh yeah… the Texas flag right next to it. lol DSC07812

Of course anything can use a bit of glitter no matter how big.

DSC07816

And here are a couple of pages that I did in my own book – I used an old children's library book.  This has been a fun project which I need to get wrapped up in the next few weeks – I have one persons book left to do my pages in for the US of A.

We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world.  We need to take better care of our country….

Cedar Ridge High School

Wow – we attended the Ribbon Cutting of my grandson's new high school tonight.

DSCN4069

This campus is enormous –375,000 square feet, 97 classrooms, 18 state of the art science labs all on  97 acres.

DSCN4081

Follow along on the tour with me.  Let's follow these two random guys.

DSCN4060

The cafetorium – I guess that's what it's called.

DSCN4061

Look – there are those guys again.

DSCN4062

The Java Joint – run by students (I think) who are in the

DSCN4072

Culinary arts program.

DSCN4079

Let's head over to the Athletic department – one of two gyms

DSCN4073  …

The weight room – holy cow.  Did your high school have this?

DSCN4075

The dance studio!

DSCN4076

One of the myriads of labs

The four Academies center around an enclosed courtyard – (the 2nd story glassed in area – student learning lounges spread throughout the campus) .

onto which a few classrooms open!  Some of the classes can be moved outside in the courtyard.  Note the ergonomic student chairs – they bounce for the ones who learn better while they squirm and wiggle around.

DSCN4084

School colors are purple and black – I'm down with purple since my own high school was purple and gold! They are the Raiders.  Baaaaaaad!

DSCN4056

And here's my #1 Raider…#23 off the line!

off the line

Woo hoo – Football season is almost here.  This was the first scrimmage Saturday night – 101 degrees at 7:00 P.M.

DSCN4041

September can't get here quick enough for me.  Adios summer. Hello School Year…And here's to the Class of 2013…first graduating class of CRHS.   Enjoy your years at this fabulous school!

Pink Saturday Sweetness

Isn't Pink Saturday fun?  I love visiting so many of the blogs who are PS regulars and favorites!  Recently Gabriela Delworth had a giveaway on her blog and lucky me!!! I won.  It was for a book that she authored – Paper Head Dresses.  When it arrived last week not only was it her book on crown making – it was also….

Gab1

A fabulous kit to with everything to make a crown!  A beautiful and huge pink flower,

  DSCN2950-1

amazing papers, trims, and glitter…OH MY!

DSCN2952-1

I can't wait to create with this.  The only problem will be which crown to make – the book has so many to choose from!  Thank you so much Gabriela – this is so generous of you.   And speaking of generous….

DSCN2953-1

this fabulous pink pin cushion is from my friend Betty at She's SEW Pretty.  This was a Pay It Forward we were part of.  Betty is one of the first friends I met here in blogland and I'm a big fan of her work…it's amazing.Bettyspc

Thank you, Betty.  Now I'm lucky enough to have several She's Sew Pretty creations.

I have one more person to thank…one of the absolutely most important people in my life…my bff, Barbara.  I don't think I've ever been through a crisis without her and very few celebrations haven't included her.  Besides being about the most talented person in the world – she cracks me up.  So Thursday when I was so behind on a big project I've got going…she came up and cut 200 tiny felt flower petals for me.DSC09542

She cut, cut, cut and I sewed and sewed.  Then pretty soon we were so exhausted that…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.DSC09543

That's the beauty of being friends for 50 years – one or both of you can nap anytime you want!  I hope you are blessed with a napping friend like I am because it's one of the best blessings in my life!!!

Here's some link love for you today:

Kitchen Show and Tells

Recently we changed the kitchen up a bit and moved a "table for two" in and our larger table out.  This  table is a little drop leaf that is scheduled to be painted…the legs will be red and the top an off white along with the rooster chairs I'm painting a creme color.  When this house was built in 1909 it had no cabinets, a wood burning stove and a cistern/well outside the back door providing water.   My point, however, was to share those cute little anthropomorphic wall pockets above the table.

 DSCN2711

I bought the whole box of these at an auction for about three dollars with a bunch of other stuff in the box. I love the the little sunflower faces.  Don't they look happy?  I made a half-hearted effort to sell them on ebay and was sooo happy when they didn't sell.  (I do have a business – LOL)

DSCN2914

The table was to sell also but some things just are meant to be kept!

DSCN2712

I look around my house and very little is left that isn't from an auction, estate sale, ebay, garage sale etc….when did my motto become "out with the new…In with the old???!!!"

DSCN2713

I would show you my dining/craft room but I promised A & E t.v. that I wouldn't post pictures until my episode of  Hoarders airs!!!!

I'm joining two fun Friday memes:

Some really fun blogs participate so stop by to visit.   xoxo Nancy

Waxahachie Pink

Where was my brain?  I was gone for a couple of days and didn't get back in time to sign up for Pink Saturday.  Can you hear a big Pink Sigh???  Since I forgot I'll just reminisce about the last time I was in Waxahachie.   You know - where we go for Paper Cowgirl.  I always have to take a drive by the Little Pink Cottage.

The antique stores are so much fun to browse through and they have lots of pink.

The vendors have the best pink craft kits.

The things I've made there always have a touch of pink somewhere.  Here's my Paper Crown swap for the fabulous Suzie Button.

Plus they have one of the best scrapbook stores in the world.  Located in an old old building downtown they have fabulous supplies and classes The Crafty Scrapper (or the Scrappy Crafter but not the Crappy Scrafter)  I wish Waxahachie lived in Austin!

Head on over to Beverly's At How Sweet The Sound to visit all the Pink Blogs who remembered to sign up for Pink Saturday.
And I'll join Cindy at My Romantic Home for Show and tell Friday.

Paper Cowgirl

I know a lot of you guys will be at Paper Cowgirl next month and I thought I'd give you a little sneak peek of LaVerne's class project.  LaVerne is a great teacher when she's sober and if she's not....well even more entertaining and creative.  Laughing.  Poor LaVerne - she hasn't been checking the Paper Cowgirl yahoo group lately and I'm am sooo in for it when she does!!!  So back to why I have gathered you all here today...let's look at her books.
She had some angelic inspiration on this one...isn't it darling?

These altered books are the neatest things for storing tags, pictures, recipes, or other little projects.  Plus they look fabulous just standing open!
This is one of the classes last year.  She was up at dawn, had her breakfast Mojito and was first in the door for Mendy's class!  If you haven't checked out the Paper Cowgirl Art Retreat you are missing a lot of fun.  Classes, shopping, crafting and swaps all packed into three days.  Head on over to the Paper Cowgirl blog to see all the things they have planned.
Happy Trails....Cowgirl Nan!

Tech Tuesday

Well, dear friends….it's Tech Tuesday again and Lillie Louise is blogging again.

DSCN2555

She attended an AKC sheltie show and wanted to share her pictures…. It was a conformation show.  pope"you mean a sheltie priest will be there" I asked??? No, no, no Lillie replied.  Con FORM ation.  Show dogs get graded on form.   Lillie is no show dog – her ears were never glued and tipped so pretty as she is she doesn't "conform" to the breed standard!

(Don't you love my fine photoshop skill!)

So we helped sell snacks, keep record books and peddle raffle tickets.  Oh my goodness…you've never seen such fluffing and primping – and that was just the dogs!      Yes – that says "butt towel"
