Pinkageaddon

I think this is a great – a local support group of younger women facing breast cancer.  One of their members – Mommyunlocked - wrote this post and I agree – sometimes the pink ribbon becomes about the “pink” and the message gets forgotten – it’s worth reading.

That being said – Beverly’s Pink Saturday bloggers are all about the Pink all year long.  It’s nice looking at the world through our pink/rose colored glasses sometime!

Have a great week – xoxo Nancy

Fall Foliage for Pink Saturday

What about that misleading title?  I have no fall foliage to show you so my foliage will have to be indoor color!  We closed our antique store, The Roost, in Round Rock and will reopen next month in The Austin Antique Mall.  This round shelf unit was in there so instead of storing it I put it in the living room and it’s not leaving!

I love being able to put so much stuff on it since I don’t have many other places to display Halloween decorations.

And I can hang stuff on them!  Here’s one of the pumpkins that I made a few years ago. I sewed a million for a church bazaar.

This is my older grandson when he was two – my little Buzz Lightyear.

And here’s my younger grandson.  He started a new school and comes to our house after school several times a week and it’s wonderful being able to spend more time with him.

This is what  I replaced my pie safe with.  Those silhouettes are my mother and dad and my two grandsons and are about my favorite things.

And just so you know – we do have some fall foliage in Texas…just not my yard!

Where the bigtooth maples turn spectacular colors of red, orange and yellow; and nature proves that Texas does have four seasons, after all.
I hope these Maples never find their way back home!

Have a great weekend and stop by Beverly’s Pink Saturday for a look at more fall foliage.

“By Hand”

I have pumpkins and fall decorations but since I have pictures of my pages for my Circle Journal friend, Shelia, and no pictures of fall… I’ll show you those first.

Her theme is anything made by hand. Sewing is the first thing that came to mind.  When I was little my mother made all our clothes.  We would take a trip up to New Braunfels in the summer to shop at Comal Cotton Factory for fabric for new school clothes.  I absolutely loved picking out fabrics – matching different patterns and choosing the trims and buttons.

My mother could cut a pattern from a newspaper. I could show her a picture and she could cut her own pattern and sew it! I never realized until I started to sew that that was quite a talent!  My sister and I always had new Easter outfits from head to toe and my mother would sew similar dresses for us.  When I saw these two little dress pattern girls they reminded me of my sister and me.

I’ve used about anything that wasn’t tacked down on these pages…ric rac, velvet ribbon, mother of pearl buckle, scrabble letters, crepe paper, dress patterns…and I finally started liking the layout.  The eyelash yarn reminded me of all the loose threads that was my job to pick up!

When I learned to sew I needed a pattern.  You can never get those patterns refolded to fit back in the package…even teeny tiny ones!

Those little patterns are my favorite things on these pages.  Shelia asked us to use the hand she sent somewhere on our page so I used it to hang a little thread spool title.  I haven’t sewn anything in years but when my son was little I made matching clothes for us! Haha.  A jumper for me and shorts for him.  I know…awful right but luckily for him I quit sewing clothes when he was older.  (Ann Landers called…she want’s her hair back!) Isn’t my little boy darling – he was sewww sweet!

I made drapes for my house…lined and pleated and took an upholstery class and upholstered a couch and chair. Upholstery – that about did me in.   I look back at my 25 year old self in amazement because I surely couldn’t do it now.

Anyway here are my pages for Shelia.  Her journal is just amazing – all the pages before mine are creative and adorable and I’m completely jealous of her book!

I’m sharing this for Pink Saturday because I always have a little Pink somewhere on my pages. If I get some pictures of my fall decorations I’ll add them.  So what am I doing this weekend? Friday Night Lights to see my grandson play and the Red River Shootout between the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday and an auction Saturday night.

Have a great weekend!

Here’s a peek at my fall deco – I’ll post it next week. Smile

Happy Fall Y’all

It’s begun….yep, the new themes for Pink Saturday is a sure sign that the holidays are just around the corner.  And starting today we have a choice of a theme or pink or both.  And for the first time in two years I’m decorating for fall.   Before that  here’s a little peek of my pages for the “Itty Bitty Book” club!

fall 2012 004
The theme for this book is “Black and Orange”.  I’ve got this huge roll of vintage coat check tickets so that’s what I used for my pages.  Is that cute little girl checking her check coat? hahaha I was going to do something clever with a play on words but instead just ended up with coat check.

Next up…just a little vignette of some fall things.

fall 2012 008
The little Demdaco girl is called “Lavender Grace” and was a gift from my sister-in-law. It looks so pretty with the Jim Shore pumpkins.

fall 2012 007
For now I’ve put more pumpkins in my giant cloche.

fall 2012 009
And what’s that laying next to it? Why it’s a picture of my two Brandons on Senior Night at the Raider football game.

fall 2012 012
The scruffy guy on the left is my son and that buff fellow on the right is my grandson.  And speaking of cute grandsons…look who joined us for a quick supper last night before baseball practice.

fall 2012 001
My other cute grandson Q all dressed in Pink! He had on pink socks the same color! That’s the heighth  of 8th grade fashion! I love the kids going pink for October Breast Cancer Awareness.

Have you guys been by Beverly’s Pink Saturday  yet.  Her porch is sooo pretty dressed up for fall.  She’s given me incentive to get my own cleaned up and decorated.

We’re expecting a cold front tomorrow. I know! Can you believe it? It’s finally going to start cooling off.  I’ll be right here watching the Longhorns and checking out some Pink Saturday blogs.

Happy fall y’all and happy Pink Saturday! xoxo Longhorn Nan!
