Live Pink Love Pink

We've been doing Pink Saturday for so long that "pink" has become a verb, a noun and still has her old job as a colorful adjective! I had a wonderful birthday lunch with my girlfriends and then a day spent with my family not to mention a Longhorn victory in Lubbock!– My friend LaVerne made these adorable angels with the best advice:

Live        Laugh          Love

DSCN4442

With a head that holds the key to happiness they have pink wings and are just adorable.  What a perfect gift~ thank you so much LaVerne. I love them!

DSCN4439  From my son and daughter in law I got this beautiful bouquet of flowers – snapdragons, hydrangeas, mums, alstromeria and straw flowers and the prettiest pink gerber daisies.

Show and Tell

Do you remember that adorable little witch who came home from Ballet Austin last year?  Oh she's a sweet one.    Never one to practice black magic – I think she only deals in Aqua magic!  Why aqua you asK????

DSCN4453

Because why else would she have these fabulous, jeweled shoes.  Well she has a new friend….

He was a gift from my friend Patty.  Flying in on a pet owl holding a pumpkin (the elf, silly, not Patty!)

A Super Harvest Moon

It's here!!! Fall…and not just any old fall… a special one – a super Harvest Moon.  Go enjoy it.  I shamelessly copied all this from the NASA website.

For the first time in almost 20 years, northern autumn is beginning on the night of a full Moon. The coincidence sets the stage for a "Super Harvest Moon" and a must-see sky show to mark the change of seasons.

The action begins at sunset on Sept 22nd, the last day of northern summer. As the sun sinks in the west, bringing the season to a close, the full Harvest Moon will rise in the east, heralding the start of fall. The two sources of light will mix together to create a kind of 360-degree, summer-autumn twilight glow that is only seen on rare occasions.

image

Keep an eye on the Moon as it creeps above the eastern skyline. The golden orb may appear strangely inflated. This is the Moon illusion at work. For reasons not fully understood by astronomers or psychologists, a low-hanging Moon appears much wider than it really is. A Harvest Moon inflated by the moon illusion is simply gorgeous.

The view improves as the night wears on.

Super Harvest Moon (conjunction, 200px)

A Moon-Jupiter conjunction on Aug. 26, 2010.

Northern summer changes to fall on Sept. 22nd at 11:09 pm EDT. At that precise moment, called the autumnal equinox, the Harvest Moon can be found soaring high overhead with the planet Jupiter right beside it. The two brightest objects in the night sky will be in spectacular conjunction to mark the change in seasons.

The Harvest Moon gets its name from agriculture. In the days before electric lights, farmers depended on bright moonlight to extend the workday beyond sunset. It was the only way they could gather their ripening crops in time for market. The full Moon closest to the autumnal equinox became "the Harvest Moon," and it was always a welcome sight.

This one would be extra welcome because it is extra "Harvesty."

Usually, the Harvest Moon arrives a few days to weeks before or after the beginning of fall. It's close, but not a perfect match. The Harvest Moon of 2010, however, reaches maximum illumination a mere six hours after the equinox. This has led some astronomers to call it the "Harvestest Moon" or a "Super Harvest Moon." There hasn't been a comparable coincidence since Sept 23, 1991, when the difference was about 10 hours, and it won't happen again until the year 2029.

A Super Harvest Moon, a rare twilight glow, a midnight conjunction—rarely does autumn begin with such celestial fanfare.

Enjoy the show!

Go see the moon! xoxo Nancy

Pink Saturday at the Roost

Happy Pink Saturday…I went to the Creating Keepsakes Show today and do you think I got a decent picture?  Nope… so in lieu of those fuzzy photos I thought I'd show you some "arial" shots of The Roost.  I love, love, love these vintage lanterns.

DSCN4214  Aren't they the most delicate shade of pink? I had a really high price on them because I do not want to sell them…but if something is in there not for sale customers get really grumpy!  I also get complaints from my husband who thinks I hang too much and I quote "crap" overhead!

DSCN4213

They are really old just like me – ahem – and today is my birthday and eating program or not I'm sure I'll have a little cake!  Matter of fact…why don't you join me!

Touches of Fall

Last year about this time we had a GNO at my friend Patty's house.  We always wonder after a get together why we didn't make something.  So I gathered up some cigar boxes and a little of this and a bit of that and we all made one of these.

DSCN4377

Of course each one was different and darling but I didn't get pictures :(  Mine sort of reminds me of the old original McKenzie-Childs stuff.

DSCN4376

I loved the original trim so I left that as is…

DSCN4364

Some old dictionary pages, some handmade embellishments, along with some ready mades and it's a perfect place to keep vintage tally cards.  I decided any new collection should fit in a tiny box but are they ever hard to find!DSCN4367

Looking at this cute ball garland – wouldn't those have been darling to use as "feet".

DSCN4374

If I didn't do these computery things I'd probably never get decorated for fall…and I LOVE my fall decorations.  So slowly I'm getting it done – thanks to:

Claudia at Dipity Rd for Friday Finding Beauty.

Once again I'm starting an exercise and diet program.  I feel like my body has withstood a lot in the past few years so now I definitely need to convince my mind.  Wish me luck!

On The Turning Away

Done in graffiti style these are art murals done in tribute to 9/11.

Beverly of How Sweet The Sound has asked us to post about 9/11.

The Website -  Art Crimes – has a whole gallery of  graffiti art done after 9/11.

It's a different but poignant remembrance.  In  my opinion we need to remember 9/11,  educate our children  about it and stay vigilant.

Matchbox Swap

Have you ever done a Matchbox swap?  I've never done one until recently I signed up for Linda's A Swap For All Seasons Christmas Swap.  She comes up with some really clever ideas and this is really cute!  Decorate 25 matchboxes and put one tiny little gift inside each, mail to her by Oct 31st and then by Dec 1st she will mail back 25 matchboxes to each swapper for a little advent calendar!  Each made by a different person.  I'm about half way done with mine.   I thought mine were cute enough until I saw some on her site – whew – they are adorable.  You can see those here

As usual – I'm all over the place.  I could never work on an assembly line because I hate making anything more than once…maybe twice!  DSCN4321

DSCN4324

These little boxes are so much fun to do.

DSCN4332

And of course I had to do a few in pink and aqua.   These have tiny little button ornaments on them and some vintage Holly leaves.

DSCN4335  Then I got into a "sepia mode"

DSCN4338

And then I got  matchbox block and couldn't do anymore so I decided to quit and blog!DSCN4337

These will work for Cindy at My Romantic Home's Show and Tell Friday and I think I'll slip them in for Claudia at Dipity Road's Friday Finding Beauty.   For Pink Saturday Beverly at How Sweet The Sound has suggested we might want to write about 9/11.  I'm not sure if I will – who will ever forget – and I find myself bitter about it lately so who knows but like all of you….I remember.

I think I need to read Darconville's Cat – I want to know what his regret is.  As I get older I have fewer regrets and more acceptance.  I thought it would be opposite.

Dress Your Family in Pink and Hot Pink

OOPS! I'm an idiot! I changed a setting on comments and apparently almost no one could leave a comment! Thank you IDH for letting me know. I hope it's fixed but then again maybe you're sick of reading this fascinating stuff and I have no blog friends. Uh oh - I better get some therapy for this low blog esteem but they'd probably just tell me to journal in a blog. Then again - maybe it was the setting. LOL (added late Friday)

Never ever let it be said I let having two sons stop me from dressing us in Pink!  And by the way you guys you are so in for it….I've uploaded about 40 years of old slides which means I have an endless supply of pictures with which to bore you!!!!  Join me now in my Magic Pink Time Machine! LOL

Here I am in Pink8-21-2010_019 with my swarthy looking husband. (He's really not that dirty...it's the slide silly!)

And here's my little boy Jeffy dressed up in hot Pink, a white bolero and knee socks.  What? Okay – maybe we were heading to a wedding – maybe we were in it!  Maybe that couple just celebrated 40 years! Geez we're all old!

8-21-2010_017

Anyway – two years after these pictures were taken I had another baby – another boy.  Would you like to see his nursery?

8-21-2010_005

8-21-2010_002He had a hot pink baby bed and the wallpaper was called "Who Me".  It was a darling room.  Green and white ticking stripe wallpaper on the ceiling and three walls  and then those cute little pink jungle animals on the 4th wall and bright green carpet.

Isn't he the sweetest little guy with his little bird legs and he loved looking at his pink jungle wallpaper.   (That hanging thingy looks a wee bit dangerous – I think I moved it  Actually we did all kinds of dangerous things – like drink coffee with caffeine and a drink if we wanted. Walkers and carbeds!  Do you see those preggie ladies on Mad Men?  It's all true – smoking and drinking. Who knew?)

So I am here today traveling back in time to let you know you can "live Pink" even with boys.  And they both grew up and married….girls no less!

I'm joining Claudia at Dipity Rd for  Friday Finding Beauty, Beverly at How Sweet The Sound for Pink Saturday and Cindy at My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday.  Hard to get to all the blogs but it's worth a try!  Have a Perfect Pink weekend!  xoxo Nancy

Welcome September

ShabbyBlogsDividerB"There comes a time when autumn asks,
What have you been doing all summer?"

"For summer there, bear in mind, is a loitering gossip, that only begins to talk of leaving when September rises to go."
-   George Washington Cable

"September: it was the most beautiful of words, he’d always felt, evoking orange-flowers, swallows, and regret."
-   Alexander Theroux, 1981

Dear September – I thought you'd never get here and I've been waiting since June for your arrival.  Please – prove all the skeptics wrong and bring us a cool front.  I don't care how you do it…sneak in overnight or blow in and knock this miserable heat down to Guadalajara!

If you hadn't guessed September is my favorite month.  What's yours?  Or do you get ridiculously happy over a month????  It only comes once a year after all!  Happy September!
