Pink Saturday Aug 16th

I hope you're having a wonderful Pink Saturday. For some reason this week I was a bit stuck on what to share. Then I remembered this absolutely beautiful little pink sweater that was given to me by my aunt. The yarn is so soft it almost feels like feathers! And she knit it for me over forty years ago - before I ever thought of having kids. She sent it to me before I had my oldest son! (That was when you found out what you were having when the baby was actually born! How archaic!!)

Along with these sweet little pink booties and a little bonnet! So I packed it away until I was expecting my second child.

Well when my younger son was born I packed it away and I thought for sure someday I'd have a daughter. Nope - never happened. So then I saved it for a grandchild but my first was a boy and a few years later another little boy! So every so often I get it out and look at it and wonder what it would have been like to have my very own daughter. And then I look to the future and see a little great granddaughter all dressed in pink!
I loved having a reason to get this out again. I always marvel at how tiny and perfect all the stitches are. Maybe her name will be Marie - like her aunt from four generations earlier.Don't get me wrong - it's been wonderful with all my boys. In fact, they are absolute jewels! I am curious however. Did you find out the sex of your baby before it was born? If you're too old like me would you have chosen to had it been available? I definitely would have. How about you?

Thanks to Beverly at How Sweet The Sound for having this pink party every Saturday. Hugs, Nancy

  1. Happy Pink Saturday, Nancy.

I adore this little sweater set. I saved pink things, too, but I have a son and grandson.

When I was pregnant, they would guess the sex of the baby based on the heart rate. I would have chosen to know the sex if that had been an option.

  2. Love the little sweater set. And yes we found out the sex of our baby. I wanted to know before I painted the room and bought stuff. I found out for all three, and I am very glad I did!
    Enjoyed your post!
    Blessings, Debbie

  5. What a beautfiul little sweater set that is. When my daughter was born I didn't know whether I was having a girl or boy. Eighteen years later when I was pregnant again (yes, I said 18 years!!) I wanted to know and was delighted to find out that I was having a boy.

My daughter found out with both of hers as well.

    Happy Pink Saturday!

    take care,
    Dawn

  6. What precious little garments! You should display them! In the Olden Days when I was pregnant we would have someone dangle a pencil suspended by a string over our bulging belly. I don't remember how it worked, but if the pencil swung from side to side it meant one sex and if it made a little circle, it was the other sex. We also had a fellow teacher at the school I worked in who had an outstanding track record for predicting the sex of the babies being carried by pregnant teachers. Oh, the good old days! I still would want to be surprised when the baby was born. Nothing beats that feeling.

  7. Happy Pink Saturday.

Some of my friends do find out and some don't. If someday I were to have children I don't know that I would care one way or the other... Healthy? that I'd care about.

  11. We did it the old fashioned way, we gave birth and the Doc told us the news. :) I wouldn't have done it any other way. Cinnamon carpet and swirly blue wallpaper with yellow accessories was my choice for the baby.
The second time, I knew it was a boy, had the same sickness, just knew.
One day, somewhere down the generations you will have a dear sweet little girl to bless with your pink pretties. And they will be Vintage!

  14. Love the sweet sweater set. Yes, I am too old to have benefitted from ultrasounds when I was pregnant, and yes, I would have found out if it had been an option! Cute post...

  15. Darling layette set!
We did find out what we were having, and I was SO hoping for a girl...
Now that I have my little boy I can't imagine what I wanted a girl for!
Perhaps you could buy a cute baby doll to display the outfit while you wait for that grandaughter someday...

  16. Nancy, Since we were young mothers at the same time, you know I didn't find out until delivery...but I did have a laugh about the teacher who had success predicting her friends' babies...when I first started teaching, "PG" teachers did not exist...litteraly...the first pregnant teacher I remember working with was late-70's. She taught science and disguised her bump with a lab coat until school was out...it was a scandal!...For two such young chicks, we've seen a lot of social/cultural changes in our lives.
The pink set is just the sweetest...keep your fingers crossed for son #2...miracles do happen and this little layette is just waiting for one.

  17. Loved reading your Pink Saturday post. Nope I didn't know what I was having until the dr. announced it in the delivery room. Both boys. We had a little grand-daughter 3 years ago and ask me if I love buying girly girly for her. Yeppers...It's so much fun. For Christmas last year I gave her a crystal chandelier for her bedroom. She tells everyone she has a Princess bedroom. :)

  18. How sweet that sweater set is. I also kept the pink and shared it in a past post. These items are so special.
When I was pregnant with my eldest the option wasn't available, my second they told me twice she was going to be boy (wrong!) but with my 3rd and 4th we opted to found out and prepare. Both boys

  19. Nancy, the baby sweater set is beautiful and made with love. Boy's are great fun and they say less worry when they get older. I disagree with that. My daughter has two boys and she thinks about trying for a girl now and then. Since there are no promises for a girl, she has given that idea up. I love your pink story.

    Hugs, Jeanne

  20. Hello Nancy!

Happy belated Pink Saturday! The pink sweater set is adorable and the story that goes with it! I had four children and we never knew what we were having until they were here! Had three girls and thought for sure the fourth was another sweet baby girl, but no it was a boy! They are all grown with babes of their own. We love them all don't we Nancy!

    Hugs,
    Maryjane

  21. What a sweet little *pink* sweater set! Do you have a baby doll that you could put it on and set on a bed? That way you could at least enjoy it, and they make such lifelike baby dolls today! I didn't know either that I was having a boy, and if I would have had the option, I really don't know if I would have wanted to know or not.
