Round Top Recap

I’m amending this post for Beverly’s Pink Saturday so be sure and go see her and all my pink friends. In almost every picture of our booth you can find something Pink.  (Not the industrial manly side so that doesn’t count!)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I guess I need to update my blog name to
My Poor Ignored Crafty Little Page!
The past couple of months have been busy, busy and I should have just done what I see some bloggers do...take a blog break. Last month was my turn to host bunco and since every possible surface was covered with stuff going to the antique show we had it at my bunco partner's house. So I did food and prizes
image
which, like an idiot, I made instead of buying. Prizes - not food - because as you probably have heard me say Jeff does all the cooking. So he made gumbo for me - which everyone loved. And even though I've always done the cooking for bunco before last month everyone thought that the gumbo was the best thing I ever made...so there you go. haha
Last week was the antique fair at Round Top. What an experience that was. We set up on a Friday and it ran through the following week until the next Saturday. So for nine days we drove the 80 miles over and 80 miles home. Up at five...on the road by six a.m. and close at six p.m. and back home again. The drive over was spectacular. Dark and cool for a little while and then watching the sunrise showcasing the wildflowers through the mist made it worth the drive. (The rising sun and I haven't seen each other for a looong time by the way!) I didn't take any pics of course but I did swipe some off of Flickr and truly this is how they look!
We shared a booth with Bella Blues - my lifelong friends and sisters Barbara and Judy. Any time we can spend time together is a good time no matter what we're doing. They stayed here - thank God - because no matter what fiasco happens it somehow turns into a "laugh till your sides hurt" occasion. Not that I don't appreciate my eye rolling husband - ahem - after all...someone needs to be in charge of eye rolling!
So anyway here are a few pictures of our booth/tent. Here’s Judy hard at work.
Every single night we put all the outside stuff inside and rolled the sides of the tent down. So every day we would redo our setup.  If I got bored I’d just start rearranging stuff! hahaha It drove my husband nuts!
 DSCN0482
Almost all of our furniture sold and as they did we would pile things in baskets. People love digging through baskets! I sold a lot of vintage kitchen utensils that way!DSCN0484
Everyone at Round Top wants a deal and negotiating the price is half the fun.
DSCN0498
See the tent beyond ours?  That guy sold Rachel Ashwell  most of her stuff for her home and B & B in Round Top.  Word to the wise if you go there.  Tons of people from the Marburger Farms show come to La Bahia and buy stuff, take it to their space there and sell it for lots more $$$!
DSCN0507
In my mind I was wondering what we would do with all the extra space in the tent.
DSCN0448
Make a lounge area? Exercise equipment? (yeah right). Turns out my mind overestimated how much room is in a 10 x 20 tent! Turns out we had to rent a lot of extra outside space! Three of us sharing the space - my nephew with his industrial furniture, me and Jeff, and Barb and Judy; you can see the way we arranged it was a girl side and a guy side.
Whew - the outfits that came through were funky - it was like a fashion show.
image
Lots of Junk Gypsy and Magnolia Pearl dressed people and lots of cowboy boots and gauzy dresses. And man - after cool mornings late afternoons were a scorcher. Fashion plate that I am...I wore whatever was cool - meaning "heat" cool not "chic" cool.
I wanted to go around and take pictures but kept forgetting. On the last day - Saturday before Easter some of the vendors had an Easter egg hunt for the kids. They were so adorable and when I finally found my camera it was over!
The last two days my friend Mike joined us.image
(Mike and Andy loading a shopper’s car)
Mike has been my friend since 5th grade. He is one of my best girlfriends. And no he’s not gay – he just happens to be Barbara’s husband. Actually when we started high school they didn’t know each other. Mike and I were from Travis Jr. High and Barbara was in the convent at OLS across town. I befriended her because she was nuts like me. Her? Turns out she just “used” me so she could meet Mike. Slut.
barb
Whatever – she’s still my best bud even though she’s a user.( And she couldn’t keep her hands off the merchandise)  But I digress. Mike brought new blood to our weary group along with a really good quote to use…
capture-20120412-153053
Best phrase ever next to:
capture-20120412-154802
“Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden” was written on a blackboard outside our tent. We had droves of women who giggled over that sign and came in to shop.
Okay – wow – holy cow…I’ve written over 700 words on this post. Usually I have four – Here is my pink.  I suppose I can say whatever I want at this point – confess to murder, etc. because by now you have nodded off in total boredom from this drivel I’ve penned today! Would we do Round Top again? Comparing it to childbirth I think you forget those labor pains after a while.  Here’s a bunch more pictures on our Facebook page Oodles of Antiques.
Later gator!  xo Nancy
  4. Saw you on Pink Saturday and just had to come. That field of bluebonnets just beckoned me right here to your delightful blog.
    I have wanted to go to Roundtop for years now. We use to live in Texas and I'm kicking myself that I didn't know about it then. Your booth looks amazing and you seem like a hoot. So much fun! I'd have sat and just visited.
    I am now following you. I know how overly busy you are but I would love to have you visit and follow me too. Have only been blogging almost5 months now and am just loving it. Alot of wonderful bloggers out there.
    So delighted to meet you Nancy. And doubly so because we share the same name.
  7. I could have spent all day pouring over all the goodies you had for sale. Sounds like you had a fabulous time...my problem would be in stead of selling I would be buying. Forever the hopeless hoarder.
  9. Wow Great post. I wish I lived closer! You had great mdse. I'm happy you didn't have to haul all of your furniture home again. Fleaing with your best buds and sises, and selling too, great fun.
  11. I used to love going to Round Top, but my family's health problems have kept me close to home the past few years. I had really hoped to go this year. I only go to the free places and there's something about walking where the cattle have walked that I enjoy. Maybe in the fall...
  12. Nancy, you're all over the map with this one - but - what FUN! Loved all the peeks into a terrific show. So many bits and pieces I'd have brought home with me if I lived near you. And, I would TOTALLY wear that nifty outfit on your model - what did you call it - gypsy something-or-other?
    Great pinks!
    Joy!
  13. I do not know how you did that, Nancy. The 80 mile drive to and fro each day for 9 days would have been enough to send me into fits of craziness! SOOOO ... with the cost of the space rental and gas and the wares...ya have to sell a lot to make it worth your while. I'm sure you did...but that amount of time/driving/set up and take down...it all sounds brutal!!! Bonnie and I are giving serious consideration to doing the flea market I shared on FB this week (held again in Sept). First, I have nothing cool to sell, so I'll be hitting the g.sales like crazy over the next few months. Second...the vendors at this sale really put a lot of effort into "display"...don't know if we are at that level. Then, there's getting our "stuff" over there with my van and her pickup...they don't really hold that much. The vendors we talked to all had trailers...I don't do trailers! Trailers scare me!! :)
    Anyway, I loved seeing all of your wonderful pictures and reading all about your time at Round Top. It's wonderful that you could do that with Jeff, your nephew and your BFFs!! Being with good people makes it so much more fun!!
    Oh yes...the clothing at those sales!! Sure wish you would have taken more pix of that!! Some of the vendors at the one I spoke about decked out in those gauzy, semi-hippie fairy looks..some complete with cowboy boots!! Bonnie and I are all about Cool and Comfort Chic, too. Maybe it's an age thing....we do become wiser as we grow older!! :)
    I am really tired tonight. I spent the day with a good buddy celebrating her BDay then my hubby wanted to go to a show tonight...he picked The 3 Stooges. OMG..what a waste of 12.00!! It was horrible. I can't believe Jane Lynch and Jennifer Hudson agreed to be in it!!! The only saving grace was that it was a short movie...although it seemed to go on forever to me!! Of course, my hubby was howling with laughter at Curly, Larry ad Moe......duhhhhhh. :)Yesterday, another bud and I went to see The Hunger Games...I'd just finished the first book and she's read all 3. Have you read the book? I was really curious about it.....a mixture of eeeeeeew over the premise, yet, it /they were published by Scholastic and the books are being supported by educators. Personally, I loved the book...first I liked it because it truly was well written for the target audience.....so much better than H. Potter and Twilight...and such a thought provoking storyline. Actually, I don't like to "think" too much about the "deeper/darker" meanings...I'd rather just consider it entertainment. Anyway..two movies in two days. It's a record for me!
    I'll stop...HPS...I'm glad your sale was a success...now rest up.....you deserve it!
    L, Dana
    PS Love the sign you put up about shopping with husbands!! Amen to that one!
  14. Hi Nancy, I love, love, love, your post. I am still wide awake and looking again. I used to sell antiques with my sisters. I think I told you they too were at Round Top in the Cole bldg. They drove all the way from Atlanta. They sell and buy and had a great sale. You probably weren't anywhere near the Cole bldg. I would love to go one day. Nine days is a lot of driving at 80 miles back and forth.
    good thing you had people you care about to go with you. I know you had fun just reading about it all on your post. I think you have a HA! nature. When I was in business with my sisters, it was a constant laugh fest. I miss it so much. They are a lot younger then me so they have the energy to take on Round Top.
    You are right our links do look a lot alike. I love the Texas blue bells. I have only seen photos of them.
    I love what you sell so much. I can't imagine you not having a great sale. You are a gal after my own heart Nancy.
    Happy Pink Sat.
    Hugs, Jeanne
    PS: Lucky you to have a husband who cooks. Mine is hopeless in the kitchen.
  19. Thanks Nancy for coming over to my blog. If you could keep your eyes peeled for the pink teacups/saucers I'd really appreciate it.
    Also we do have alot in common. My grandmother was Nana. And when I became a grandmother I still had kids at home the youngest being 3 at the time. The oldest to youngest are 21 yrs apart. Well I was not ready to be called Grandma nor did I want to be. So I chose Nann and I do love it. It started out being Nan but then when I started an email account there were 4000+ nans. So I added the extra n and now thats how I spell it. We have 34 grandchildren and 35 will be born next month. When we are all together which isn't real often because they live all over the place...one in Texas (McKinney) and one in Colorado and one in Arizona. There used to be three more out of state but they've those 3 migrated here....which is nice...love the grandkids.
  20. Whew! I'm pooped just reading all of this. Girl, you are amazing. And, everything looks wonderful.
    I believe I see some white ironstone. I've been looking for a pitcher to hold flowers in my kitchen. Did you have any left?
    Happy Pink Saturday. I've got my game warden fully under control.
