California Girl
A swap hosted by Linda – A Swap For All Seasons – is just too hard to resist. So when she announced her Winter Sampler Swap I immediately signed up. I should think these things through! I'm not a stitcher! I was lucky to get a fun and forgiving partner. An Ohio gal who loves and misses the ocean and loves all things hot and colorful – Mexico and Dia de los Muertos. A child of the 50s who grew up to be a hippie chick!
This was really tough for me – I was worried! That's when I found my Worry dolls…do you remember these? They're from the eighties and these were on a hair clip I had so I pulled them off and put them to work worrying for me. This is what I came up with. French knots, a cut up calender towel, a dia de los muertos sugar skull, some groovy mushroom trim, bright yellow crocheted trim, embroidered tablecloth flowers and leaves. If your lazy daisy doesn't work out switch to butterflies! Add some trims
and on the back cover up those messy stitches with
a little help from some Rotarians! My swap partner was so much fun – we got to discuss Housewives of Beverly Hills and that wack job Allison Dubois. (Holy cow – did anyone see that dinner party at that she devil Camille Grammer's house?) Back to the swap…Debbie's blog is Kitten Creates and she is just that – creative! Check out her Etsy.
Today, I'm joining My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday and
Beverly at How Sweet The Sound for Pink Saturday.
Have a wonderful weekend. xoxo Nancy

Nancy, Nancy, Nancy......you just came up with the neatest sampler!!! I love the worry dolls.... haven't thought about those in ages!
ReplyDeleteI think your combination of trims and embellishments is spectacular...and how you adapted that Lazy Dazy stitch to meet your needs.......toooooo cute! The tea towel calendar and the Rotarian (pillow top....scarf?) contribution is wonderful! I'll show my ignorance...I don't know what a dia de los muertos sugar skull is..educate me,please. However, it looks like a swell way to add a little PINK to your sampler! :)
Happy Thursday....and Happy Pink Saturday!
It's in the low 70s today....but SO WINDY. I'm heading out to recapture my "jogging" skills. They aren't as great as they were in November. It's hard to jog on ice and snow. I just have to be careful now, cuz there's lots of sand on the streets.....left over from our winter street crew!

See sweetie, just when you think you can't do something......you do and a great job too. I bet your swap partner just loves what you made for her. I know I would have love this sampler, it's beautiful and so many wonderful and interesting things to look at.
ReplyDeleteAs for Housewives....what a hoot. I do feel a bit sorry for Camile, I think she was going through a very bad time and it just showed. Way too defensive all the time.
Being from AZ I just have to say that I have seen many an interview with Allison and she was always so graceful and a very interesting person, helping so many in need, BUT seeing her at the dinner party didn't help her cause at all. I was very dissapointed and saddened. I don't know if she will be able to recover from all that she did that night. It's such a shame......
Happy Pink Saturday, you did good!!! Char
Happy Pink Saturday Nancy Sweetie...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh what a beautiful job you did and I just know your swap partner was so thrilled when she received it.
I had completely forgotten about those little worry dolls. I think we all had a couple or so on something. I can remember looking them over so carefully to find just the right one. I had a headband, and I believe they were also attached to one of my bags. Oh I wonder what ever happened to those darn things.
Oh thank you for sharing today. You did an awesome job. Like Daddy always said Can't never could do anything. If you tell yourself you can, you can do it. You sure did and then some. Totally awesome job.
Have a wonderful weekend. Many hugs and much love, Sherry
This sampler came out great!
ReplyDeleteI would like to invite you join my blog party "Being Creative" starting today. I hope you join in!
Happy Pink Saturday, Nancy. I'm glad you like our kitchen redo. We are loving it. The island isn't pink, but it is raspberry. I think my husband was hesitant about the color, but he loves it now.
ReplyDeleteYou clever girl, you. I love your creation, and your swap partner must have been thrilled.
I fretted and stewed and worried the entire time I was making my mini collage. I could have used your worry dolls. Your collage turned out so precious that you need to give yourself a HYGE pat on the back. What an accomplishment. From color to design to keeping with your partners likes, you hit the nail right on the head. Congrats on a job well done. Genie
