She's Back – The Land of Painted Caves

Okay you guys.  It's time for Book Club.  Wait – we don't have a book club.  Who among you have read The Clan of The Cave Bear series? cave books   In the early '80s Jean Auel wrote the first of the series about the trials of Ayla who is raised by Neanderthals.  How can a book about prehistoric life be that interesting?  It's absolutely captivating and if you haven't read this series about Earth's Children by the worlds slowest author you should.  Trust me – Martha Stewart is a direct descendent of Ayla.  After four books that were released fairly close together Jean Auel left us hanging.woman-reading-book-275px    And then came the 5th book about 13 years later and then…..nothing!stock-photo-woman-reading-a-book-isolated-over-white-62495203   So now 12 years after the last book she's back!!! On March 29th the final(?) book will be released.  The Land of Painted Caves.  I think I'll reread the whole series.  Thirty years for a series?  I've forgotten a bit – except the second book.  The Valley of the Horses when Ayla meets Jondalar. Uh – hello? Prehistoric romance – lot's of "romance" if you get my drift.woman-hugging-book-page-232x300  I know – most of you weren't born or were too young31144-Clipart-Illustration-Of-A-Smart-Blond-Baby-Smiling-And-Reading-A-Book in the '80s to have read these books.

Well – read them!  I think we should have a blog party in April with a book discussion.  Or…you could watch "Skins" on MTV.  Good lord – what's up with that?  Really – the crap made so available to our kids.  It's ridiculous.  Have you seen it? sheesh Don't!  Anyway, I digress  – this is a heads up and Public Service Announcement to all my fellow Ayla groupies – March 29th – mark your calendars!

  1. I had to laugh at the "world's slowest author" part. So very true!

I read these way back when and I wondered what ever happened to the "rest of the story" ~~ *Paul Harvy.

Am I showing my age? LOL My son called this series Cave Man Porn.

I'm not sure I want to invest the time in re reading the series, before the latest one comes out, but I wouldn't turn down the chance to finish the story. Thanks for the heads up.

  2. I read all the early books, but never read the last one. I guess too much time had elapsed and she lost me with that one.

Do you remember the movie Clan Of The Cave Bear? It bombed. I remember hearing at the time that she didn't have a say in how it was done. I guess she had signed away the rights. I did see it at the time and was disappointed because the books had been so good.

I had not heard about the latest book.

  3. Oh, my stars! I'm soooo excited! I loved every book and every discovery and every invention...let's see: sewing needle, sling shot, taming and training a horse, and later a wolf, a couple of sexual positions, I think she figured out where babies came from before anyone else. You are so right, the original Martha Stewart. It was in that series of books that I first
encountered the concept of genetic memory and have been facinated by the idea ever since.
I haven't read The Clan of the Cave Bear since it came out back in the day...this is the most exciting news.

  4. I came back to tell you that I think I met you once for a few minutes at the antique mall where you have a booth. At least I think it was you and I was visiting my son in Austin at the time and we stopped at the antique mall. I was doing Beverly's Pink Saturday at that time and so were you. Of course, I could have you mixed up with someone else. It was two or three years ago. We only spoke for a moment.

  5. Oh, yes, I read this series..at least maybe the first three books. I still have them so I should re-read them. I'll have to see about getting the books I don't have. I enjoyed them but I think the movie bombed...didn't it?

  6. Yes, the movie was a huge bomb - and rightfully so. It was awful - still laugh about the hand to fist and finger lock assume the position "signal" though!
