Earlier this week Jeff brought me the most beautiful blue hydrangea. A few hours later I discovered it had completely wilted.
So he went back to the store and came home with the prettiest giant purple one I'd ever seen. After following the store instructions it seemed to be okay until I noticed it was beginning to wilt. So I did what I should have done in the first place – I googled "why is my cut hydrangea wilting?" Should you get cut hydrangeas for Mother's Day make sure the entire stem is covered with cold water. Take a push pin and puncture the stem several places and put some ice cubes in the water! It perked right up and has been perfect since then.
And it's the perfect backdrop for one of these beautiful vintage statues I've been collecting. Mary is pretty in pink and I just love her.
Like bluebirds – once I started looking at all the lovely '50s Japanese ceramics they become irresistible. So which one to put out?
It's Mother's Day and I decided that they all should be out. Aren't they lovely?
Even though I'm late I'm still going to join my Pink Saturday sisters and wish all of you a wonderful Mother's Day.
And finally from a few years ago a link to favorite post because it's just full of pictures of all the ones I love so much! To all the Mother's in my life – blessings. xoxo Nancy
Oh, wow...you have had a lot going on. I hope hubby is okay. My mom, grandmother and mother in law are gone so I am about the only mother here to celebrate. Sad, but true, and we are all happy.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your tip on the hydrangeas, I love them but have never had them as cut flowers.
I truly hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!
XO,
Jane
oh wow- that's very nice! Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to you too!

Glad your hubby is okay! Whew. I love the story about the hydranga and how google saved it. I guess that there really isn't anything we can't find out from google. Nice.
ReplyDeleteCome over to my blog for a visit, I'm giving away something pretty!

I knew something was going on!!! I'm SO glad Jeff is OK. It's amazing how those guys of ours can always let us know that there was nothing wrong with them...after the fact!!!! Mine did it, even after he was kept in the hospital for three days and he DID have something wrong. One word...DENIAL!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteFor some reason (I'm thinking I heard this on "Martha") that another hydrangea trick is to "crush" the ends of the stems before you put them in water. My girl gave me the sweetest little arrangement (kinda a nosegay) with a hydrangea in it. It's all still beautiful!
I'm like you......I no longer have my mom, SIL or sister to buy for on Mother's Day, but I do get a gift for my DIL and small ones for the "moms"/and hostess at the gathering we might be attending. Usually, it's MY house, but this year, my niece had the family over. I brought each lady a gerber daisy plant I'd picked up at our Garden Sale in town on Sat. I have to say, it was the best Mother's Day I'd had in years. I'd been really blue over missing my mom for days....and I'd actually been dreading Sunday, but it was a great day in every way...except we still missed our moms and my sis (her daughter was the hostess!).
It's hot in KC...and we just tested our A/C...it doesn't work. We got the biggest YORK lemon ever when we built this house 6 years ago. EVERY YEAR....from the first to this one...we've had issues with it. Can you tell I am not happy with this product? The furnace..not problem. The A/C stinks.
Gotta go clear a path in the basement for the heating and cooling guy so he can get to the unit inside....whenever he can get here. UGH.
I hope this is a good week for you!
L, Dana
PS,
Love your Madonna and Child and the angel!!! You collect the bestest stuff!
