Pink Saturday

When you leave here be sure and visit Beverly at How Sweet The Sound…our hostess for PS.   My goodness – Pink Saturday rolls around quicker each week.  And the Paper Cowgirl Art Retreat is less than two weeks away.  We’re doing some swaps this year and this quilted book swap is a first for me.  We only made 11 pages each and they were to be a Texas theme.  So for Pink Saturday I’ll show a little of my pages.quilt5

I used an old cutter quilt and ironed on a transfer I made from one of my favorite growing up songs…quilt3

Happy Trails To You sung by my heroes Roy Rogers and Dale Evans – King of the Cowboys and Queen of the West.quilt2

What fabulous role models. I wanted to either be Dale or be adopted by them and they were way ahead of Angelina & Brad adopting about 10 kids so I really thought I had a shot although I think my folks would have objected!

And here are the rules you had to follow to be in the club:

Roy Rogers Riders Club Rules:

1. Be neat and clean.
2. Be courteous and polite.
3. Always obey your parents.
4. Protect the weak and help them.
5. Be brave but never take chances.
6. Study hard and learn all you can.
7. Be kind to animals and take care of them.
8. Eat all your food and never waste any.
9. Love God and go to Sunday school regularly.
10. Always respect our flag and our country.

http://www.royrogers.com/images/rdlookf.jpgAll of us kids who grew up in the 50’s seem to have this connection.  The last two months of my sister’s life we had a hospice music therapist.  She brought a little harp and a guitar with her and would play “Happy Trails” for my sis each time she came.  Marsha, my sister, who never gave up the fight against the cancer turned to me and said “That’s it – that’s the last song I want…and don’t tell anyone!”  I knew exactly what she meant – it was one of the few times we talked about her dying.  So, at the cemetery the Pastor strummed and sang Happy Trails – we all got such a chuckle – it was so….Marsha.   On her marker… inscribed along with the bluebonnets is…”Till we meet again”.

  8. I can't believe that this is your first!! What an incredible job you did, I love the look of it all. Please be sure to post the swap, would love to see yours too. Happy Pink Saturday and I hope you found a good home for the lily. That was very hard for me to give up, but I would have been so sad to see it die in this heat. Maybe next time you could do a cactus?! Yeah right!! Have a great weekend, Char

  23. This quilt book is amazing, and I particularly like the stagecoach fabric. What a find! Happy Trails ... never heard that one before, but when I was 4 I had a wind-up gramophone and Roy Rogers' Four Legged Friends record. I still remember all the words!

    Happy Pink Saturday!

  24. Oh my goodness.. I feel like Scarlett O'Hara, who NEVER HAS THAT HANDKERCHIEF WHEN SHE NEEDS ONE! This quilted book project sounds like fun! Roy and Dale were about a good decade or so before my time, but I know my father had fond memories of them! I'm sure we could be better off with more programming like that again, instead of many of the choices available to our kids today!.. Anyways, I can only IMAGINE how beautiful these books will be when they are all finished! Happy Pink Saturday, and hope you have a wonderful week!

And it's no wonder why we connect so well! I had a similar idea with the cowboys/girls and Happy Trails...! Can you beleive it? But it's twisted differently... Isn't that a riot? I sure can't wait to see you!!!!! Hugs!
