The Nutcracker 2011

It's Nutcracker time!  Here's a pic from last year of my niece

DSCN5268

in her Waltz of the Flowers costume.

I was asked to decorate a point shoe for the silent auction fundraiser tea this year so used this costume for inspiration.

I covered the sole of the shoe with a vintage card image.

And sort of got the shape of the dress bodice..

I love the way the Martha Stewart glitter highlighted a few areas.

A tulle flower on the heel

And some vintage velvet curtain material for filling.

I didn't like the little petal held on with a vintage clip on earring so ultimately removed it and replace it with

DSCN9425

a group picture from last year  as a flower center. It's subtle and at first not even noticeable as a pic. a couple of leaf pins to hold the silk ties in place and it's done.

I hope it brings a good amount this year – the tea is Sunday so I'll let you know.  Have a wonderful weekend. Stop by Beverly's How Sweet The Sound for a peek at all the Pink Saturday blogs.  xoxo Nancy

  2. Is there no end to your amazing talents? Nancy, this shoe is awesome.......and I'm certain will go for a mighty fine amount!! I love the idea of putting the photo in with it......that really makes it even more meaningful!

My girl participated in many a Nutcracker over her ballet "career". I love it to this day and still tear up when I watch scenes that she once danced in. Did I tell you I hoodwinked my BIL into being my "hubby" in the opening scene of the Nutcracker one year? We did have fun....the ballet teacher taught us a dance (we were at the "the party" of the opening scene). I made a Victorian taffeta dress for me and my girl wore a little taffeta dress I'd made for her. It was truly a great time! It also convinced me that she did not get her dancing talent from me!! :)

  8. Oh. My. God! I'll bet people fought each other for that beautiful toe shoe! I am imagining fisticuffs at the silent auction!
    Hey.

That would be a good name for a rock band.

  9. Oh Nancy Sweetie...
That toe shoe is absolutely breathtaking. I love each little detail, but the glitter around the stitching area and the photo paper on the bottom, so elegant. Love that little group photo addition, and how glorious is the tulle flower and the ribbon that goes around the shoe itself. Love that Martha Stewart glitter addition as well. SO pretty and definitely will bring a great price for the cause. I am sure each one of these kiddo's parents will be bidding on this shoe. Thank you for sharing. Love that you added the velvet in side as well.

I can't wait to see what the auction brings for this one. Have a gorgeous Pink Saturday. Country hugs and much love, Sherry

  15. I have a shoe from one of the ballerinas here at "The Nutcracker". She signed the bottom and I hang it from my tree every year. I really love the way these are decorated. Happy PS
