Pink Saturday - I have sinned

Bless you my Pink Saturday friends! Welcome.  painted churches
Yesterday  I toured four of the twenty or so Painted Churches of Texas with my best pal LaVerne. I really wanted to show you this incredible Pink Church

however, LaVerne called dibs on it for Pink Saturday.
So, satisfying my Pink Saturday Holy Day of Obligation with THESE pictures,
I’ll show you pictures from this church.
Isn’t it stunning? All done a hundred years ago and now restored to it’s former glory.
The cathedral ceiling was so so high all painted with gold stars and I so wanted to get a good picture for you but we couldn’t go up to the choir loft.
and I really wanted a picture without all the tourists in it. So I asked OUR tour guide “could I just stand on the landing” and she said sure…go ahead. See this picture just doesn’t show  all I wanted to capture.

So I climbed the three steps and this is the picture I got as I heard the Chamber of Commerce 78 year old Baptist tour guide substituting for the REAL tour guide loudly reprimand me…”Get down from there” “Right Now” “you aren’t allowed upstairs” Aaachhh
Oh my gosh....everyone turned around!
See what I mean?

Here's a closer look! Go ahead click on the picture to make it BIG!

Geez.  I thought about hiding in the bathroom - or not.

So I ended up here and promised to repent.
A few Hail Marys later
Photobucket
and I had completely turned over a new leaf.

The churches we toured were absolutely magnificent and if you ever get a chance go see them....just stay off of the stairs!
Now go in peace and visit Beverly and all the Pink Saturday blogs.

  2. Now Sister Ascending Nancy, let's not make this "rule testing" type of behavior a HABIT!! tee-hee-tee-tee! Now I'm slapping my knee cuz I'm so funny!

OK, back to YOU!! Those churches are so beautiful---the new ones just look so sterile next to those old jewels. I appreciate all of the risks you took to get the perfect blog shots--next time, you just tell the cranky tour guide that you are a famous blogger and your fans expect amazing shots!

Loved the slide show! (I won't even tell you how much I giggled when I saw your reflection in the glass case.!

    Happy Pink Saturday! Dana

  15. Nancy, Great post, your pictures are just the best and I love Stairway to Heaven in the background...I'm ready to go again (with a Catholic guide who knows her saints and behaves in a softer manner to guests in the House of the Lord...let's get the PBS video and take Barbara with her saints book).
Hope your weekend is very pink and not just your face...

  17. Just think...every one in that church at that time will talk about you for years to come...if I had been with you I would still be saying Hail Mary's for laughter that disturbed the church...lol...it had to have been hysterical....did you explain to the faux tour guide that you had permission to be where you were standing.
    beautiful...beautiful pictures

  22. do you think the motivation for the painting of ceilings were/was fear of god or praise of god??? hmmmm, could have been love of creating! I think with how beautiful they came out must have been love for both, with lots of God given talent.wow, how did i get so wordy tonight? I must have been thrown off balance by seeing you in a habit.HP heidi
