Happy Dia de los Muertos

I’m not a huge fan of the Dia de los Muertos stuff but I did a sampler swap a few years ago with a friend who is…

this is my pink rendition of a sugar skull.  I do like the idea of a day of remembering and paying tribute to those who have passed on. If I remembered my sister I’d have to leave cigarettes on her shrine. She was a tiny thing and smoked since her teen years.  And….that is what killed her. Lung cancer. Seven years ago this month. And….I miss her a lot.  She lost a lot of weight for no reason. Her doctor checked tons of things and couldn’t find a reason.  He didn’t do a chest xray.  By the time she went to a different doctor who did a chest xray first thing…it was too late.  She lived 9 months after she was diagnosed, dying the week of Thanksgiving.  Enough about that.

Did you have any trick or treaters? We had absolutely none! My house must look forbidding this year as I have no fall or Halloween decorations out.  Here’s my little witch who never made it out of the attic this year wishing you all a

  1. I love Dia de Los Muertos and your pink skull. I create an alter every year for my dad and enjoy the time thinking of him throughout the day. I'm glad you are fondly remembering your sister and am sorry for your loss. Happy Pink Saturday. I hope you have a lovely Fall weekend! -Marti

  2. We live on a very busy street so we never get any. I go to my sisters who lives in a tree lined quiet street and my granddaughters trick or treat there. We had a good time last night. She must have had 200 or so. I do like your little witch.

  3. I’m not a fan of the Dia de los Muertos either. But, I do like your pink skull :), and remembering those who have passed. I'm so sorry about your sister...
Not a single trick or treater here either - they would have to be very brave to come up our long driveway in the dark :) Happy Pink Saturday!

  4. And I am a big fan of Dia de los Muertos...and the lucky recipient of that wonderful banner with the pink sugar skull!!! An altar for your sister would be a wonderful way to connect with her spirit & honor her memory...when you are ready. Instead of giving out candy in the pouring rain here in NE Ohio, we went to the first night opening of Dickey's BBQ Pit...a favorite from when we lived in Dallas. FINALLY good TX barbecue right here in bland land...OH people seem to think salt & pepper are enough!
Thanks again for my wonderful banner!

  5. I guess we Missourians aren't into the Dia de los Muertos cuz that's something I don't see....other than a few undecorated skeletons "hanging around" for HWeen.

We have so much in common.....like losing our sisters. Mine has been gone for 23 years now and I still can't believe it. She was my BFF...and I still miss her. Sadly, her death was caused by a disease that was not a fault of her own other that a curse of her genes. I only have one friend who smokes....the rest of us wised up long ago and quit. She looks really bad right now...very skinny and bad color. I often wonder if she has lung issues. We all have our vices in one form or another....I just wish she would give that one up so she can live to enjoy her new gr. baby longer.

I got very little out for HWeen this year...too much going on in my life to do that. However, we did have folks over last Sat. aftenoon (after I did the 5K) so I came home and frantically slapped out a few little decorations...and that was sad cuz I have boxes and boxes of cute stuff!! Next year!!! Oh and when I returned from watching our grands trick or treat I couldn't get into our neighborhood because of the crazy people parked everywhere letting their little (and way too big ones) ones trick or treat. Have no clue as to where those folks came from but they don't live here!! Gads....I finally made it to our cul de sac, but couldn't turn into the drive cuz some one was parked in front of it!!! The nerve!! ha ha!! I finally made it in, but hid in darkness cuz I hadn't bought candy for thousands...just for the three little ones who do live in our "hood" and for my grands!!! :)

Gotta take my girl and her dog to the vet, so I'll close!!

Hope you're feeling well! I miss our frequent visits....my life is still crazy, but I'll try to be better!!

  6. I'm so sorry for the loss of your sister. It must be especially hard to face the holidays without her. I do like Dia de los Muertos and the idea of remembering the dead on this special day.

  7. So sorry for your loss. I am sure you remember her everyday, but it's good to have a time to share your memories and your grief. Have a blessed week.
