Spring is definitely on its way in Texas. One day there's a bare flower bed and overnight there's a host of daffodils. The brave little daffodils have no fear of winter - I suppose that's why they are always getting frozen! Anyway here's some that I rescued from a storm yesterday!
I know spring is on its way when the redbud trees start blooming - they hold such promise when there's nothing but bare branches all around them. However, when I look across the street and see Myrtle's bluebonnets that, to me says spring is here. Myrtle died two years ago at 98 years of age but she lives on in the flowers that she tended for 60 years. If I ever get a scanner hooked up I'll share some pictures of her wearing her sunbonnet Sue hat hanging sheets right in the middle of a huge patch of bluebonnets. So that's my favorite part of spring - when bluebonnets bathe the state in a sea of blue.
On another note - I'm finishing up my swaps - Hanging up Springtime
a sneak peek at the Mother Goose Swap! Can you guess the Mother Goose Rhyme this is based on. Can't tell yet before I finish it up and send it off to my swap partner.
March will soon be here and it'll be time for the Round Top Antiques Fair - miles and miles of junk - fabulous, wonderful junk! I bring it up because of the upcoming Vintage Indie Swap. I have these questions to answer so here goes:
1. My favorite part of spring - obviously bluebonnets
2. My favorite flower - see #1 and add hydrangeas!
3. My hobbies and crafts - I love altering stuff, painting, paper crafting and sewing trims onto all of that.
4. What do I collect? I have a huge collection of blue and white china, red and white china, old linens, kreamerware - well, waaay too much of that. I love my vintage red plastic kitchen stuff, but my big challenge right now is collecting - don't laugh- old pink plastic religious things. It all started with a little pink framed Last Supper. I'm bidding on a pastel blue statue of Mary with a little pink frame INCLUDED in the auction on ebay right now. My hearts desire is a pink plastic holy water font. I passed one up two years ago and it still haunts me.
5. Allergies - hello - I grew up in South Texas without a/c playing outside so I developed a resistance to all allergies. Not counting cedar, but don't we all suffer from cedar fever? Anything I hate? Smoke - yuk and anything that's too cutsey. Love the girly stuff tho.
